Neoconservatism is in its Death Throes
Neoconservatism had its day. It gave us wars, troop deaths and troop wounds. And it did not improve our security very much. The president chose Chuck Hagel as the new Secretary of Defense to complete the burial of neo-conservatism.

The Immigration Poison Pill
Since Barack Obama was reelected with about 70% of the Hispanic vote, Republicans have joined the Democrats in preparing a comprehensive immigration bill. Republicans are so serious about this that 4 Republicans joined a bipartisan group that includes 4 Democrats. But before we celebrate, let's look at Sen. Rubio's poison pill.

The Fever IS Breaking
When Barack Obama was asked before the election why he thought Republicans would be more accommodating in a second term, he said "the fever will break." Republicans thought this was nonsense. Progressives thought this was ridiculous. But I now see signs that the fever IS breaking.

Why is Recovery Anaemic?
It's taking a long time for recovery from the financial meltdown of 2008. And even during recovery, inequality persists: rich people are getting to earn more than they did before; non-rich people, those that have a job, are earning less than they did before. This means our economic system is in need of urgent repair.

Republicans worry about the deficit, to the exclusion of everything else. Democrats worry about defending the Middle Class. Independents worry about jobs and other issues. But the most important threat facing us today are the ravages caused by climate change. Who's working on that?

Why is Republican Party Disintegrating?
Believe it or not, it's all due to President Obama. He doesn't treat Republicans with respect. He seeks confrontation. He throws out wedge issues to divide Republicans. He's working to destroy the Republican Party. Poor Republicans don't know what to do - and Obama is not helping them.

Libertarians want as little government as possible. Don't ask the government to protect you. Take care of yourself, they bellow. Get out and get a gun. The gun will give you freedom. Libertarians are wild with anger because President Obama has proposed measures to reduce gun violence in the U.S.

Obama is Breaking the Republican Damn
Throughout out Obama's first term, Republicans built a huge damn of obstruction that culminated with the debt-ceiling debate of 2011, which resulted in a financial downgrade of U.S. Republican leaders said they will try this again. By proclaiming a HALT the president is beginning to break the damn.
