U.S. District Judge Denny Chin made a fair and balanced judgement when he dismissed the case because the book was obviously indulgng in parody. Before making his ruling, he asked the Fox lawyer whether she thought that a reasonable consumer would believe that O'Reilly or Fox endorsed this book. The book sports the pictures of Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush. The fair and balanced lawyer said:
"This is much too subtle to be considered a parody."
Perhaps I do not understand all the subtleties, but the ruling looks fair and balanced to me. On the cover of the book are 4 of the most fair and balanced people in the country today.
Bill O'Reilly, the star commentator on the Fox network, is fair and balanced all the time. That is why he is so popular. He is meticulously fair in choosing guests for his program. He evaluates their ideas and their personalities and if they are not stupid Democrats, he invites them. He is balanced too. There are some conservatives who are moderate in their views. He does not invite such weak conservatives either.
Ann Coulter is the queen of the fair and balanced group. She is fair in the way she defames those who disagree with her, especially liberals, who she claims are treasonous. She is balanced too. There are some moderate conservatives she places in the same camp (gulag?) as liberals.
Dick Cheney - how could anyone call him anything but fair and balanced? He believes in the fairness of secrecy. Why get the average citizen hot and bothered about the complex details of our energy policy? He and fellow professionals helpfully worked out the details by themselves. He is also balanced. Sometimes he comes out of his hidden location to make a speech about war. In public.
Of all those on the cover of the book, President George W. Bush is the most fair and balanced of all. He brims with fairness. He even lies, which is against his religion, because he wants to be fair to each and every citizen. You see, if he would not lie, the U.S. would not go to war with Iraq and war was imperative. So he lied to help all of us ordinary people. He is balanced too. He does not lie only to one group of people. He lies to all of us.
Let us all learn a valuable lesson from all this. It pays to be fair and balanced in everything we do.
