I am an Obama Liberal

Psychological Picture of a Conservative

Researchers at UC-Berkeley culled 50 years of research literature to determine psychological factors common to conservatives. According to them, the psychological factors of a typical conservative are:

> Fear and Aggression - this is why a conservative often endorses inequality

> Dogmatism and Intolerance of Ambiguity

> Uncertainty Avoidance - produces resistance to change

> Need for Cognitive Closure - remember Bush's May 1 "victory" production on the USS Lincoln?

> Terror Management - this is why a conservative tends to "punish outsiders and those who threaten the status of cherished world views."

The researchers state that in times of crisis, such as now, the public feels safer with conservatives.

However, crisis times calls for liberals who are not aggressive and are tolerant of ambiguity. Not only do they not resist change, they are eager for change that will solve problems. Their minds are open and they are ready to consider suggestions from all quarters. They are ready to work together with allies and friends to extranct us from our current crisis.

We need liberals to get out of this current mess.
