"Bush used his speech to formalize an about-face in his Iraq policy: After months of insisting the United States did not need the help of the United Nations, he has now decided to seek a new U.N. resolution authorizing the creation of a U.S.-led multinational force in Iraq."
This is an about-face? This is exactly what he said before: We want the UN to come in and follow our lead. The only difference is that now he is asking for troops and money. The conditions are unchanged in any meaningful way.
How could a man like Bush stop lying when he sees his lies are becoming less effective with time? Evidently he thinks that with enough repetition people will believe him. If you are going to lie give them the "big lie." He DID lie again in his speech when he said:
We will do what is necessary, we will spend what is necessary to achieve the essential victory in the war on terror, to promote freedom, and to make our nation more secure."
Though he has not proved it, Bush still proclaims that the Iraq war is part of the war on terror. No connections were ever made between bin Laden and Hussein. He is lying again.
Then Bush continued:
We are fighting that enemy in Iraq and Afghanistan today, so that we do not meet him again on our streets, in our cities.
Actually, by occupying Iraq we are attracting terrorists to Iraq. They see an easy way to undermine our efforts. So terrorists are streaming over the border.
Instead of killing terrorists we are inviting terrorists.
Yes, our soldiers are dying in Iraq. We are squandering our military, thus weakening rather than strengthening our war on terror.
Bush is not changing his policy. He continues to lie and dissimulate to support his policy.
