11/05/2003 Entry:
We Don't Agree, But...

Militarism Above All

President Bush has transformed a peace loving nation into a warring nation. It was not enough to attack the Taliban and bin Laden. He threw us into a bitter and probably long war with Iraq. And now it appears that he is thinking of bringing back the draft in time for new war adventures in his (he hopes) second term.

Everybody knows about the unfinished Afghanistan war. The papers tell us daily about American deaths and casualties in the "mission accomplished" Iraq war. But do you know that the Defense Department is seeking people to serve on draft boards? Just visit Defend America and see this headline:

"Become a Selective Service System Local Board Member"

Then it says:

The Selective Service System wants to hear from men and women in the community who might be willing to serve as members of a local draft board...."

I was not aware there was such a thing today as a Selective Service System. But who knows? This is possibly another of Bush's secrets.

Is Bush planning more wars? I don't know. Then what is the purpose for seeking people to run draft boards? Someone is thinking of enlarging our military activities.

We all know that Bush will not bring up the issue of a draft before a presidential election. But maybe he will after he is (he hopes) reelected.

I don't know what is being planned. Everything I see, though, smacks of militarism. Why doesn't the administration work on the advancement of peace? Try to settle the Israeli-Arab confrontation, for instance?

U.S. is rapidly becoming the most militaristic society on earth. Let's stop the slaughter with a regime change. Let's dump Bush.
