Bush thinks that now that the Republicans have increased their number in the Senate, he can get his way regardless of what Democrats think or do. He is acting as a bully - almost like a schoolyard bully. He is taunting the Democrats, not with 1 judge nomination or 2 nominations, or 3 or 4, but with 20 nominations. Bush is saying:
I won, you lost. I'm the boss and I will do as I please. You're too weak to do anything about it. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Bush is letting Democrats know exactly how he feels:
Maybe you Democrats will try to filibuster my judge nominees. If so, go right ahead. I have something in store for you. You're in for a great defeat, a disastrous humiliation. We will use the 'nuclear option.' We don't call it 'nuclear' for no reason. We're going to change the rules in the Senate to make filibustering judges illegal. What will you Democrats do then? Ha. Ha. Ha.
You know, I have been writing many articles on the need to seek accommodation and cooperation. As a matter of fact, I have placed cooperation in my logo. But there is no way to cooperate with a bully. No one with an ounce of integrity puts up with a bully. When faced with a bully, there is only the recourse of fighting. Bullies must be fought until they yell "uncle."
And this is what the Democrats in the senate should do: fight. They should filibuster the 20 judicial nominations. If the 'nuclear option' is adopted, they should bring progress of all business in the senate to a slow-motion halt. They should continue this way until Republicans see the light and bring the filibuster back.
And you, dear reader, should write to your senators and urge them to filibuster. A filibuster is needed to give minorities a voice and to produce a little civility in our government.
We must reject the previously rejected 20 judicial nominees.
