Listen to this unbelievable tale. Derrick A. Max, the executive director of 2 business-oriented groups, sent testimony in favor of overhauling Social Security to the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. Max claims this is non-partisan testimony.
A few reasons to doubt this:
- He favors privatization
- He works for the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security, which is associated with the National Association of Manufacturers. Do you think he represents workers or manufacturers?
- He works for the Coalition for the Modernization and Protection of America's Social Security, which is affiliated with the Business Roundtable. Do you believe he is for protection or elimination of Social Security?
No need for doubt. Max gave himself away when he made a small mistake: he sent the message as a Word document which inadvertantly included editing that had been done by a fellow named Andrew G. Biggs. And where was Biggs at the time? In the White House!
Senator Byron L. Dorgan, chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, had this to say:
"We have long suspected what's happening here. These groups advertise across the country, presenting themselves as independent and representative of many voices. This shows that there is one ventriloquist for these groups, and he has an office at the White House."
No corruption here, merely a ventriloquist in the White House. The Republican ventriloquist is pretty good at what he does. He has managed to bamboozle the country to gain Bush a second term. Now, in addition to trying to destory the safety net, he is also working to wreck the Senate with the appropriately labeled "nuclear option."
